Connect to Your Intuition

 

Your senses are working at every moment of the day. From recognizing and listening to sounds to reacting to the sensation of a touch, the five senses keep you alive, intact and allow you to enjoy the many pleasures that life has to offer.

But what about your 6th sense?

If you’ve ever found yourself at a crossroads and instinctively knew which direction to go in without fully knowing why, your intuition was working in full force. It is the deeper part of your being that connects you to yourself and the universe at large.

What Is Your Intuition?

Your intuition is that gut feeling beyond what your logical mind is able to reach - an inner knowing. It is connected to your higher power which speaks to you on a spiritual level, guiding you as you venture on through the journey of your life. Through your intuition, you can tune into your inner being and strengthen your relationship with yourself and the universe. Your intuition is part of what connects you with universal intelligence and a great step to introduce you to your own truth.

Call it your personal GPS system, your inner guide or your 6th sense, when you learn to work with and trust it you will make better choices, create a deeper connection to yourself and develop your spirituality. This is a divine gift to be treasured and can be accessed again and again. 

As your intuition speaks, you’ll receive what I like to call inspired actions. Whether that’s through a knowing, a feeling, a sense or a vibe. The reason fear and doubt come up when you listen to our heart is that it doesn’t give explanations. You are used to thinking with your mind (from the neck up), sorting through the complexities of different scenarios and possibilities. Thinking with your heart (from the neck down) encourages you to get in touch with a feeling, where there is no further commentary. It’s an invitation to listen to a knowing and trust. 

As you listen to this divine wisdom and take action on your inner guidance, the more you begin to realize its power and capability. Your intuition is like a muscle, the more you exercise it the stronger it becomes. 

Begin To Connect to Your Inner Voice

There are several methods and techniques that you can implement and get started with to help you connect with your intuition. Once you begin to practice, you’ll soon wonder what you ever did without it. It is the first step in creating a deeper connection with your inner self. From this place, you can begin to make choices that align with what’s most important to you. 

Recognize Your Inner Voice

Intuition communicates in different ways. The key to success when it comes to connecting with your inner voice is to understand how it speaks to you. 

What signals does it send you? Do you hear a voice or is it more of a feeling? Do you pick up on visuals or images? Maybe smell or taste? You may connect more deeply to emotion, or see colours. You’re likely already utilizing your intuition, you just haven’t become aware of your own unique way of picking up on it. 

These five Clair senses are different types of psychic abilities that you may notice. Some may be stronger than others as you continue to develop your own.

  1. Clairaudience - To hear

  2. Clairvoyance - To see

  3. Clairsentience - To feel 

  4. Claircognizance - To know 

  5. Clairalience/Clairgustance - To smell & taste

Another way of building awareness is to identify your intuition vs your logical mind. What is the difference between the guidance from your heart and the thoughts in your head? As you practice, you will begin to get clearer on the distinctions between the two. 

Even if your intuition prefers to act in a subtle way rather than a full-on clear message you will eventually be able to tell when it is trying to get your attention. Keep practicing! This is a process, the better acquainted you are with your intuition the easier it will become. 

MEDITATE

Meditation is a great way to clear your mind, free yourself of distractions and create the perfect environment for your intuition to express itself freely. If your mind is full of chatter and you’re always busy and ungrounded, chances are you won’t pick up on the signs and messages that come from your intuition. 

Quieten the noise and create an internal solitude for you to work with your intuition. This is your foundation. Try a guided meditation or practice in silence on your own. Soon you will yield powerful results as you find it easier to connect with your intuition.

TAROT/ORACLE CARDS

One way to train up your intuition is by using cards. A divination tool does not hold all the answers, but can work great as a visual tool to gain clarity around your insights. They can also help you find direction in ways you may have not considered. 

As you shuffle the cards, trust that you will pick out what is meant for you and notice anything that comes up as you look at the cards. Try it without relying on the guidebook, and use a journal if it helps to record what comes up for you. It is an effective and fun way to build up your instincts and channel your spiritual intellect.

RELEASE YOUR RESISTANCE

If you have mental and spiritual blocks that are holding you back from experiencing the benefits of your intuition, it may be helpful to some release work and energy decluttering. Where in your life do you feel out of alignment? What steps can you take to clean up the energy? Whether it be saying no to a commitment that no longer works, cleaning out your closet, burning sage in a particular room or re-organizing your finances. Decluttering can be both physical and emotional, and incredibly rejuvenating. 

Another common cause of feeling intuitively blocked is an underactive third eye chakra. 

Some signs and symptoms include:

  • Fearing the unknown,

  • Unable to trust, wanting to be in control

  • Reoccurring patterns

  • Having a hard time concentrating, ungrounded

To alleviate this problem you can work with your third eye and reactivate it. This can be achieved through mindfulness activities, using crystals, aromatherapy and affirmations, to name a few. 

SPEAK TO YOUR INTUITION

If you want to connect to your inner voice don’t just wait for it to speak to you, communicate with it. Set an intention that you want to connect and specify what it is that you want to know. Ask questions and feel into its response. When you open up the dialogue between yourself and your intuition starts to work for you. One way I love to connect with my intuition is to place my hand on my heart, take a deep breath and open my awareness. It can be as simple as that. 

It’s important to also engage with your intuition on a daily basis, not just when you have a dilemma or trying to find an answer. Connecting to this place can be a beautiful state of being. The more comfortable you feel with this process the sharper your intuition will become.

TRUST YOURSELF

When the sound of your inner voice begins to grow, you may feel resistance as it challenges you to live at your edge. Trust in your ability to know what’s right for you, to feel into what you need. Listening to your intuition is being present to your own needs, and doing what is courageous over what is easy. 

Take your time and allow it to unfold. When you overthink and try to push for things to come through, you’ll end up getting mixed signals. Pushing to hear or feel it will only create resistance. Breathe, allow, open and trust.
